Yesterday Jake and I were feeling adventurous so we packed a lunch and set out for Starved Rock state park. It seemed like a great idea in the morning, since it was sunny and nice...but when we arrived at the park the weather changed from sunny and nice to thunder and lightning. We intended to spend the morning hiking and we weren't going to let a little storm deter us ( as I said, we were feeling adventurous). So we hiked down to a canyon with a waterfall and on our way, the rain started to fall. No matter, we continued on and arrived at our destination. The waterfall was neat, you don't expect to see something like that in central Illinois. By now, the thunder was echoing down in the canyon, so Jake and I decided to have our picnic. Fortunately, the rain stopped while we ate. Just for fun, we picked out a cave to take shelter in if the weather got out of hand.
People often say in central Illinois, if you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes... By the time we got back to the car, the sun was out and it was turning out to be a nice day...so we picked another trail and said hi to everyone we met. There were two little old ladies who thought they didn't need to say "hi" twice. We passed them a second time...Jake said hi, and they looked at us funny and then on the way by said,"I think we already saw you." Ok, you can't say hi again?
So, if you're ever going to go hiking watch the forcast and make sure you remember to say "hi" only once.
